This page is dedicated to your first steps! Please send photos of yourself on your travels...help inspire other hobo sisters!
Ok, ok, I'll get the ball rolling...here I am (June '08) in Yellowstone. Hooray for solo road trips! you can stop as often as you like to pee and nobody complains :)
This is Iris, my solo travel hero! She took a month this summer and RODE HER BICYCLE down the Pacific Coast. 1300 Miles. Brave, tough and such a great addition to the Hobo Sisters Clan! I love this quote from her blog:
"It was a month ago to the day that I started my journey, July 5- August 5. 1,300 miles. When I started I had a lot of preconceived fears and anxiety. It took some time, but the things that I feared the most had the least relevance in the overall journey. That fear of being on my own, later became one of the greatest joys of my trip. That fear of not being able to ... became triumph when I did do it. I learned so much."
My best friend from childhood, Ruby, went on her first cruise...a big, brave step, since she admits to being afraid of the water! Here she is with a friend, enjoying her new found freedom!
She writes, "It was a thrill to take a glass bottom boat out to Land's End and see the rock formations. We saw sea lions, and white crested waves. I remember thinking how anxious I was before the trip began to be sailing on the big ocean in a big ship, thinking I would probably want to wear a life jacket the whole time because I have such a fear of drowning. And there I was, on the Pacific Ocean side of Land's End in a tiny boat and not even a life jacket on board, I wouldn't have believed I would have done it."
September 2008 Here is my sister Rebecca and her best friend, Susan, all packed for their long planned trip to Nepal!!! I couldn't be more thrilled and proud that my little sister is a hobo. Soon I'll have photos of their adventures as they stay with Sherpa friends who live in the native village of Namche Bazar, the gateway to Mt. Everest!
Adventure! What amazing experiences we can have if we just take that first step out the door! Becky and Susan in Kathmandu.
My BFF, Sammi, after her first plane ride ever! Attending college and away from home for the first time, navigating an airport for the first time, flying for the first time (and on her own too!). Definitely qualifies for hobo sisterhood! She's already making plans for international adventures! Hooray for hobos!
